The sites of these paintings are forests of the Niagara Escarpment, in an area I have been exploring for most of my life. I have come to see these forests as ancient, complex and constantly transforming.

Working both on site and in the studio over many months I render these landscapes with acrylic paint applied in a layered, visceral way reminiscent of Abstract Expressionism. Compositionally the paintings appear as exerts from an infinitely repeating structure, and the process of their construction re-enacts a timeless cycle of decay and renewal.
